<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Dear Friends and Colleagues,</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Greetings from Gubbio!</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By this letter, we would like to invite all of you to attend the “<strong>Fifteenth International Conference on Drosophila Heterochromatin</strong>” which will be held again in Gubbio.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>The meeting will begin on June 10th and finish on June 15th, 2024!</strong></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We want also to recall that the meeting site has a large space for posters and an auditorium that can comfortably accommodate more than 100 people. Thus, in addition to the platform speakers we welcome applications from other scientists, including your postdocs and graduate students, to attend the meeting and present a poster. <strong>Please forward this letter to anyone you think would be interested in coming.</strong></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As in the past, we will continue with a feature introduced at the past meetings; inclusion of eminent researchers studying heterochromatin in other organisms. The interactions among researchers working in different organisms, with different experimental approaches was a bit of “salt” that contributed to the notable success of our conference.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In addition to the scientific sessions, we will take advantage of the special traditions and sites that this area of Italy has to offer. Among the extra-meeting activities, we will be given round trip to the Tuscany. </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is the website <a href="http://hc2024.azuleon.org">hc2024.azuleon.org</a> where you will find, along with a preliminary program, the complete list of prices for the different hotel categories (it looks like prices will be little bit cheaper than last 2019 meeting) and the modalities of payment.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As always, Monia and Federico will take care of the social and practical aspects of the meeting organization.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We need to know as soon as possible whether you plan on attending, and how many students and postdocs you think may accompany you. Your responses are important so that we can block an appropriate number of hotel space for us.<br>For any question, you can ask by e-mail me and Laura or Monia and Federico.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We are sure that, given the perfect setting and the continuous exciting progress being made in the study of heterochromatin, we will have another productive and enjoyable meeting.<br></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Il giorno 12 giugno alle ore 18:45, si terrà la cerimonia di intitolazione della Scuola a Mario Polsinelli. Mario Polsinelli ha concepito la formazione dei giovani come una missione, in questo spirito è stato Fondatore della Scuola. La passione di Mario per la ricerca sui lieviti e sulle loro applicazioni verrà testimoniata da un rinfresco ed assaggio di vini in suo onore grazie all&#8217;aiuto delle cantine con cui collaborò.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Vi pregherei di dare la massima diffusione presso i vostri atenei e centri di ricerca perché, come fortemente voluto da Mario Polsinelli, la Scuola di Genetica di Cortona, è un importante momento di formazione ed incontro per tutti gli interessati alla Genetica e a cui tutti, studenti e non, sono invitati a partecipare.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">invio in allegato alla presente il programma definitivo della <strong>IX edizione della Winter School del Dottorato di Ricerca in Biotecnologie</strong> dedicata alle Biotecnologie e Aging, che si terrà in presenza presso l’<strong>Aula 1 del dell’edificio ADISU di via del Giochetto, dal 23 al 26 Gennaio 2023</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Inoltre, gli studenti di dottorato troveranno nella stessa pagina l’opzione per la <strong>sottomissione di un breve abstract</strong>, la cui scadenza è fissata al <strong>18 Gennaio 2023</strong>. Tale abstract sarà poi selezionato per un poster o per una presentazione in inglese, la cui durata (15-25 min) verrà definita una volta noto il numero degli abstract presentati.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ricordo inoltre che l’iscrizione è aperta a studenti, specializzandi, assegnisti e docenti. I partecipanti riceveranno un’attestazione di partecipazione. Gli studenti potranno ricevere l’attestazione dei crediti maturati (fino a 4 cfu), proporzionalmente alla durata della frequenza alla scuola.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph"><strong>We are pleased to inform you that applications for the upcoming</strong><br><strong><a href="https://meetings.embo.org/event/23-pop-genomics" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">EMBO Practical Course &#8220;Population Genomics: background and tools&#8221;</a></strong><br><strong>are now open!</strong></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The course will take place on 13-19 March 2023 in the outstanding island of Procida (Naples, Italy).</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One grant of 500 EUR covering the registration fee of one student/post-doc who is an AGI member or works in a lab in which the PI is an AGI member will be awarded by AGI to a successful candidate.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In this EMBO Practical Course, participants will learn fundamental concepts and advanced approaches to reconstruct the demographic history of populations and infer natural selection, using both classic and machine learning-based techniques. Participants will also learn the essential and advanced programming skills required to run the analyses related to the concept presented, with a special focus on machine learning. Keynote lectures focused on major achievements and future perspectives of population genomics will complement the training. Lectures and practicals are delivered by experienced outstanding and inspiring speakers. We expect participants to become fully confident in running analyses on their own after attending the course.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This course aims at evolutionary biologists who already have basic bioinformatics skills. Good knowledge of R is a pre-requisite and knowledge of Python is a plus. Ph.D. students and Postdoc researchers will benefit the most out of this course, but applications from all candidates will be evaluated in their context.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Cari colleghi,</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ho il piacere di informarVi che è stato pubblicato il bando per l&#8217;ammissione alla IV edizione del Master di II livello in Citogenomica Clinica e Laboratorio di Citogenetica per l&#8217;anno accademico 2022-2023.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Il termine ultimo per le iscrizioni al master è fissato all’11 Dicembre 2022.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Il master è strutturato per creare figure professionali di alto profilo specializzate nell&#8217;ambito della citogenetica clinica. Un corso pensato per tutti coloro (biologi, biotecnologi e medici) che, in un percorso post-laurea, vogliano specializzarsi nel campo delle analisi citogenetiche e nello studio della moderna citogenomica, fondendo le tradizionali tecniche citogenetiche con le moderne strategie di sequenziamento ed analisi.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Il master è organizzato in 7 moduli che si articoleranno per tutto il 2023 in lezioni frontali (per l’83% online) e in esperienze dirette di laboratorio, che saranno tenute nei giorni di venerdì (pomeriggio) e sabato (mattina) al fine di garantire la frequenza di lavoratori al Master.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">La parte conclusiva del Master sarà caratterizzata da uno stage di 400 ore dove i partecipanti si interfacceranno con tematiche cliniche specifiche presso le strutture convenzionate e seminari tematici nell’ambito della citogenomica tenuti da docenti esperti e di rilievo internazionale che hanno già dato la formale adesione alla partecipazione al master.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sono previste 3 borse di studio a completa copertura della quota di iscrizione (Euro 1800,00) e 5 borse di studio parziali a copertura della seconda rata di iscrizione (Euro 720,00). Inoltre, gli studenti iscritti al master potranno partecipare al Pass Laureati della Regione Puglia che finanzia totalmente o parzialmente il master con voucher formativi.</p>

<h3 class="has-text-align-center wp-block-heading" id="course-description">COURSE DESCRIPTION</h3>



<p class="has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph">The workshop is designed to enable the attendees to apply metabolomics in a research-based context. We will focus both on experimental design and data analysis of different data sources integrated at the level of the metabolome. Attendees will engage into the design of a mass spectrometry-based metabolomics experiment with cutting-edge equipment and will gain an overview on the use of specific software platforms for metabolomics data mining. Special attention will be paid to the integration of metabolomics data with metagenomics, gene expression and proteomic data.</p>



<h3 class="has-text-align-center wp-block-heading" id="target-audience">TARGET AUDIENCE</h3>



<p class="has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph">Research scientists who are using or planning to use metabolomics analysis in their research activities are welcome to attend the workshop.<br>Participants are invited to present a use case by submitting an abstract (max 150 words) containing a short description of their research topic and the metabolomics issue/approach they wish to discuss with the speakers. The Organizing Committee will select ten abstracts for a flash presentation and discussion during the roundtable on Friday, on 29th April 2022 afternoon.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="about-the-practical-course">About the Practical Course</h3>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Study methods in population genomics have been profoundly reshaped in the last few years, fostered by the rapid growth of DNA sequence production and sharing. This unprecedented opportunity has led to major steps forward in the field and calls for new approaches and computational skills to have become routine in evolutionary genomics laboratories.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Participants will learn fundamental concepts and advanced approaches to reconstruct the demographic history of populations and infer natural selection, using both classic and machine learning-based techniques. Participants will also learn the essential and advanced programming skills required to run the analyses related to the concept presented, with a special focus on machine learning. Keynote lectures focused on major achievements and future perspectives of population genomics will complement the training. Lectures and practicals are delivered by experienced outstanding and inspiring speakers. We expect participants to become fully confident in running analyses on their own after attending the course.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This course aims at evolutionary biologists who already have basic bioinformatics skills. Good knowledge of R is a pre-requisite and knowledge of Python is a plus. Ph.D. students and Postdoc researchers will benefit the most out of this course, but applications from all candidates will be evaluated in their context.</p>
